Although ePortfolios are being used extensively in education throughout the world, business is just starting to see the benefits. Companies are interested in knowledge and talent management systems, but for employees it is often just seen as 'yet another form to fill in'.

The key is individual control. If a portfolio belongs to the individual rather than the organisation, the benefits then become clear, and the link will emerge between individual growth, learning and the bottom line. There are increased workplace demands for employee accountability, and proof of performance. Portfolios can be used by emploees to collect 'evidence' of their achievements which can then be shared for performance appraisals, promotion meetings or creating presentations for clients.

We believe that Foliospaces is the best application available for creating a business portfolio, but time is still needed to create a good one. Human Resource Managers have traditionally favoured 'in house' solutions, and they have typically been shunned by employees because they are seen as extra, unnessesary work. By the end of 2009, it is anticipated that there will be  interoperability between ePortfolio tools, so users will be able to move between 'in house' and independent hosts like Foliospaces which will make the time and effort put in to portfolios much more worthwhile for individuals.
